I love Orwell's essay. I can't say I achieve what he aims for in the essay but I do try and follow his principles.

One of my favourite points is the one he makes about the term "democracy" and the way that imprecision can disguise meaning. I often say that "everyone thinks democracy is a good idea". Then I point out that in some places they think it's such a good idea that they include it in the name of the country. The Democratic Republic of Congo is one such example. Even better is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The German Democratic Republic was another example.
