I have discovered that Charles Dickens inadvertently admitted having stolen "A Christmas Carol" from some other source. It's in his letter to Prof. Cornelius Felton, in which he describes how he supposedly wrote the story. In the handwritten letter, you can see that he refers having "fastened on" it; then, feeling nervous that this was too revealing (after having jokingly called himself a Ruffian and a Rascal), he scratched that out and replaced it with the colorless word, "achieved." This is just one clue of many. I can prove that the original was written by an American couple named Mathew and Abby Whittier, and that Charles Dickens merely commercialized it within six weeks to make quick cash.
